Oslo

Norway - Oslo - Town Hall and harbour in the summerOslo, the Norwegian capital, lies between blue Oslo Fjord and green hills of Oslomarka, giving the city a ‘blue-green’ image. The city is a beautiful amalgamation of old and new architecture, parks, museums, ports, hills, forests and more.

For a dose of history visit some of the many museums in the city. The popular ones are the Munch Museum, the Norsk Folkemuseum, the Viking Ship Museum, the Kon Tiki Museum and the Fram Museum, featuring the polar ship Fram. The Holmenkollen is home to the world’s oldest ski museum and with its ski jump tower and a ski simulator it is one of the most visited tourist attractions. There are also some open-air museums, like Frogner Park and Vigeland Park, displaying sculptures, carved gates and other creations.

There is a great variety of galleries too, like the National Gallery, Galleri Riis, Stadard, UKS Gallery and Format. As Oslo is the oldest of the Scandinavian capitals, one can view some beautiful architecture, buildings and monuments like Akershus Castle and Fortress, the Royal Palace, Parliament Building, Stortorget, Aker Church, Town Hall (Radhus), Oslo Cathedral and the National Theater, a neoclassical building.

Oslo presents scores of outdoor activities ranging from playing beach volleyball at Langøyene, Island hopping in Oslofjord to swimming in fjords and lakes in the woods.
