Athens, the Greek capital, has one of the longest histories in the world. It offers an impressive number of tourist attractions from museums to temples to impressive architectural marvels of the past.

Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world and has many historical and archaeological sites. The popular among them are Erechtheion, Parthenon, Belvedere Terrace, Propylaia, Temple of Athena Nike, Asklepeion and Odeion of Herodes Atticus; all are located in Acropolis (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

There are many popular museums in Athens like the Acropolis Museum, Athens University Museum, Benaki Museum, National Archeological Museum, Museum of Cycladic Art, Byzantine and Christian Museum, Museum of the Ancient Agora, Jewish Museum of Greece and the National Historical Museum of Athens all of which speak of the glorious past of this magnificent city.

Athens boasts many beautiful churches and architectural marvels like the Old Parliament, the Little Mitropolis Church and St. Nicodemus Russian Church. Among others are the Church of St. John of the Column, the Amphiareion; Dafni Monastery Kerameiskos Cemetary and Syntagma Square.

Athens has no dearth of entertainment venues, where one can enjoy and relax, both at the same time. Some of the most popular ones are Mike’s Irish Bar, Palenque, Bios, Cafe Alavastron, Soul, Wunderbar, Stavlos and Gagarin 205 Club.  

Other popular attractions include the National Art Gallery, Parnitha National Park, Attica Zoological Park, Athens Planetarium, Theatre of Dionysus, the oldest theatre in Greece and the Olympic Complex that dominates the skyline of Athens.

Athens has a semi-arid climate where summers are very hot whereas winters can be anywhere from mild to cold. The best time to visit during the warm and pleasant season of spring.
