Jordan – officially known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a beautiful country in the Middle East. Jordan offers several tourist attractions- from beautiful landscapes and rich wildlife to castles and numerous historical monuments.
For nature lovers Jordan presents a number of attractions like Dana Nature Reserve and Ajloun Nature Reserve. Other natural habitats are the unique Azraq wetland oasis, Shawmari Reserve, Wadi Rum Protected Area and the Mujib Reserve – world’s lowest natural reserve. The Gulf of Aqaba has a rich marine life and is world’s northernmost coral reef ecosystem.
There are many historical sites and ancient monuments in Jordan. The best place to start this journey is at the white city, Amman. Its famous attractions are Temple of Hercules, Umm Qays, Our Lady of the Mountain Church and Khirbat al Wahadina. Qusair Amra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Kings Highway; Royal theater; Desert Castles; Crusader Castles- Ajloun, Karak, Shobak; Umm al Jimal and Tabqat Fahl (Pella), among others.
Jordan has many sacred-religious sites as well like the Great Temple, Byzantine Church, Wadi Kharrar, Jerash, Mt. Nebo, Bethany-Beyond-the-Jordan and Hammamat Ma’in (also called Zarqa Ma’in).
Museums and galleries are the best place to explore Jordan’s past. Some of the popular museums are Jordan Folklore Museum, Museum of Popular Traditions,Martyr’s Memorial and the Jordan Archeological Museum. And the few famous galleries are Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Al Mashreq Gallery, Orfali Gallery and Dar Al Anda.
For adventure seekers one can go for hiking, trekking or climbing the mountains of the Rift Valley; swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving at Aqaba; horseback riding at Petra or Amman & northern Jordan.
Jordan has a climate on the extremes, with the lowest area having very hot and humid summers and the higher altitudes experiencing very cold winters. The best time to visit is April to October when the weather is comparatively pleasant.
