The most popular tourist destination on the Mayan Riviera is undoubtedly Tulum, offering everything that you need for a relaxing holiday. Its combination of beaches, small town, historical sites and a peaceful atmosphere, that makes it a perfect place to unwind.

Tulum boasts of the only sea-side Mayan Ruin and is a must-see attraction. This beautiful ancient ruin, located along the Yucatan peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, is the best preserved Mayan site. Tulum’s unique feature is its strategic and impressive fortification, with walls on three sides and ocean on the forth side that helped the city easily defend itself.

Mexico - TulumThere are over 60 well-preserved buildings and most significant ones include Temple Of The Frescoes, with intricate carvings all over the temple. The most outstanding building of this city is El Castilo, atop highest cliff of Tulum, which is a fortress as well as a temple.

But if you don’t wish to visit theses places then you can always admire the nature at the Si’an Kaan Biosphere Reserve. This is Mexican Caribbean’s largest protected area and also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Another premiere tourist attraction includes jungle tour, swimming with the dolphins and witnessing the amazing sea turtle nesting (May to August). You can also try kiteboarding, snorkeling the coral reefs, and scuba diving as well. Apart from these, in Tulum you can also take part in reef and cenote diving, especially at the Crystal and Escondido cenotes. If you don’t wish to do any of these activities; then simply stroll throughout the town or relax leisurely on the white-sandy beaches.
