Vienna

Vienna is a rare example of a perfect amalgamation of the present and the past. Along with magnificent imperial palaces and Mozart melodies, cute little cafés, designer boutiques, as well as important cultural exhibitions and a vibrant night life, it can be considered one of Europe’s most dynamic cities.

Austria - Vienna - Opera at night

Vienna, the capital and largest city of Austria, exhibits Austria’s heritage in all its shades. The famous Hofburg, ornate Opera House and Mostviertel orchardsare only a few examples of it. Schönbrunn Palace, Schloss Schönbrunn’s landscaped park, is home to the world’s oldest Baroque zoo and was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1996. A broad boulevard, the Ringstrasse, surrounds the historic city center of Vienna (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site). In its center, one can visit the impressive Stephansdom, which is the seat of the Viennese Roman Catholic archdiocese.

There are other popular sites like the Belvedere Palace, Albertina, Naturhistorisches Museum, Secession building, Riesenrad in the Wiener Prater, Statue of Athena in front of the Austrian parliament and  Museums Quartier, which is house to some of the world’s most provocative contemporary art behind a striking basalt façade.

Art and culture have a long tradition in Vienna. The Theater an der Wien has hosted many premiers recently, while the Burgtheater is considered as one of the best in the German speaking world. There are many opera houses, concert venues, museums and ballrooms. The nightlife of Vienna caters to the preferences of all ages. There are theatres, opera houses, cinemas, cabarets, bars, nightclubs, beer gardens and wine gardens (where you can even taste local wines).

Vienna has a humid continental climate with warm summers, enabling you to enjoy the nightlife. During cool to mild spring and autumn, you can venture out, while you can enjoy skiing during cold and snowy winters, from December to March. This makes one’s stay in Vienna a memorable one, all year round.
