Switzerland - Zurich

The largest city of Switzerland, Zurich is counted amongst the most beautiful cities in Europe. Zurich is a paradise for shoppers and art lovers for it offers a whole trove of shopping centers, museums and galleries.

The first thing one notices upon arrival in Zurich is the airport, one of the largest airports in Europe with many shops, restaurants and service facilities. The next major attraction is the Swiss National Museum, home to the largest collection on the history and culture of Switzerland.

Other tourist attractions include the Fraumünster (Church of Our Lady), famous for its stained glass windows by Marc Chagall, the Johanna-Spyri Museum, exhibiting collections about the life and work of Johanna Spyri; the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, displaying important artworks and the Urania Observatory, which attracts many a star gazer because of its enormous telescope.

For adventure and fun take a trip to the Uetliberg and enjoy a superb view from the lookout tower over Vallais, Bernese and Glarus Alps, surrounded with black Forest and Säntis. You can also take an easy ridge walk to Felsenegg, and from here take a fun ride on cableway to Adliswil. In the evening you can simply hang out at any of the 500 clubs and bars that pulse with life till the early hours.

Zurich is shopper’s paradise that boasts of ‘Bahnhofstrasse’, a fine shopping street with fashion houses, boutiques, department stores and specialist shops. Apart from that the side streets of the old town offer antiques, unusual articles and curiosities. Limmatquai, with its fine guild houses, is another favorite shopping street apart from Löwenstrasse and adjoining “Shopville”. Purchase a sweet souvenir, of the world famous delicious chocolates, at the factory of local chocolatier Sprüngli, in Kilchberg.

Since Zurich boasts numerous indoor attractions as well as outdoor activities, any time of the year is perfect for a visit. During the summer (June through September) it can get quite hot, but it is also the time when the city receives the most rain. Spring and fall are pleasant seasons to visit as well. Winters can be very cold accompanied by heavy snowfall.
