Milanos chathedral (ital.: Duomo di milano) is arguably the most important sight of Milan. It lies in the centre of the city and is known as the ffth largest cathedral and the largest gothic cathedral in the world (108m). The groundbreaking was in 1386 and it took nearly six centuries of work to complete the impressive cathedral fnally in 1965. Another important place to visit is the Dominican church “Santa Maria delle Grazie”, which has been set on the list for world cultural heritage under the UNESCO in 1980. The church has been selected to expose one of the most important and famous mural paintings in the world, named “The last supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci is just one famous artists that developed the cultural reputation of the city. The famous italian painter, architect and philosoph was employed by the Milan city government between 1482 and 1513. Today, Milan is home to many cultural institutions, museums and art galleries and is widely regarded as another world metropolis of design, fashion and architecture besides Paris, New York and London. Twice a year the “Milan Fashion Week” takes place, which is regarded as one of the most important clothing trade shows all over the world.
